Capacitance Measurement
Capacitance is one of the most direct indicators of cable quality. It reflects the geometry, consistency, and dielectric character of the insulation in a single continuous measurement — making it the most sensitive early warning of any process deviation that could compromise electrical performance or cause a finished cable to fail specification.
The Proton Products InteliSENS™ CG-i4 series is designed around that principle. Built for continuous inline measurement on insulation extrusion lines, the CG-i4 monitors capacitance in real time as the cable is produced — detecting variations in wall thickness, dielectric properties, material consistency, and concentricity the moment they occur, not after the reel is complete.
What sets the CG-i4 apart is what it does with that data. On-board FFT analysis resolves the full spectral signature of any periodic insulation variation, and on-board SRL prediction translates that signature directly into a forecast of the cable's electrical performance — all within the gauge head itself, at production speed, with no external processing required. Manufacturers can see not just that a deviation is present, but what it means for the finished cable's compliance with standards such as IEC 61156 and TIA/EIA 568, and which process variable is most likely responsible.
The result is a fundamental shift in how capacitance measurement contributes to production: from a quality check to a quality control system — one that enables instant process correction, supports closed-loop automation, and delivers 100% electrical performance traceability across every metre of cable produced.
